Starehe Boys Centre and School

Founded in 1959 by the late Dr. Geoffrey Griffin and other two co-founders, the late Geoffrey Geturo and the late Joseph Gikubu, Starehe is a charitable institution that provides care and education for boys in need. It runs a Centre, a Secondary School, and a tertiary Institute offering Accountancy and Computer studies.

Starehe relationship with Shell

The initial Centre/School facility was two twin huts donated by Shell/BP that remain intact to date. Shell/BP also made an initial grant of gbp 2,000 that made other well wishers join hands in supporting Starehe.

The then East Africa Oil refineries (Shell) donated the Mombasa Holiday house to Starehe in 1964 and it has been used by Starehe students as a holiday camp over the years.

Starehe Boys’ Centre and School is a partially-board, boys-only school in Nairobi, Kenya. The school was founded in 1959 by Dr. Geoffrey William Griffin, MBS, OBE, Geoffrey Gatama Geturo and Joseph Kamiru Gikubu. It started as a rescue centre in Nairobi.
